Buhoma Community Development Association
The Community

Started in 1993 by some Mukono Parish members with the valued assistance of a US Peace Corp Volunteer, Mr John Duboir, Buhoma Community Developement Association (BCDA) is a community based business enterprise initiated and managed by the local coommunity around Bwindi Inpenetrable National Park (BINP).

It is located right at the entrance of Bwindi Inpenetrable National Park which is believed to be home to about half the world's population of the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Bwindi is also famous for "Albertine rift Endemic", a group of Birds specific to the Western Rift valley. Bwindi Inpenetrable National Park (BINP) is found in south Western Uganda, about 600KM from Kampala (Uganda's Capital).

One of the main reason that led to the creation of BCDA was to position the local communities around BINP to earn a living through methods that would not destroy their Bio-Diverse Environment, which happened to be home to the Endagered Gorillas and Albertine endemics. A direct result of this initiative has been the massive reduction in De-forrestation in the Buhoma area. Women in the area have also been empowered with skills that will help them provide for their families Financially While their Children are recieving quality Education that will, importantly teach them how to care for their environment for the benefit of Futue generations.
